| 2005 Trainer of the Year-Renae Jording |
|
Agency: Cheyenne Transit Program
Nomination by Joe Dougherty, Director of Transit
Renae Jording has been Cheyenne Transit's trainer for as long as we have had training! In fact, Renae graduated from the first PASS instructor training class ever given. Time alone does not necessarily distinguish Renae, but her commitment and true belief in training make her one of the best in the business. This is evidenced by the fact she has received this award two times previously; however, it is also evidenced by the fact that our drivers enjoy training with Renae and walk away knowing the material.
Renae selflessly gives up her weekends to provide needed training for certification to CTP's 28-plus drivers. Renae easily recognizes when her students are getting the information and when they need a little remedial training. She doesn't think twice about going to the extra effort of riding on the bus with class members to help them empathize with passengers. Renae adds these duties on top her already full schedule as Cheyenne Transit's Assistant Director.

2005 Conference Highlights
|
The 17th Annual 2005 WYTRANS Conference and Bus Roadeo, held June 23-25 at the Holiday Inn by the River in Casper, offered various training opportunities for drivers, managers, and dispatchers. Many of the conference participants went home with a door prize thanks to the generous bus vendors, Casper businesses, and the hard work of the 2005 Conference Coordinator Faye Nash.
The first day offered a wide variety of conference sessions. Detective Scott Jones of the Casper Police Department presented "Meth and Its Affects." Detective Jones gave tips on what a person who is using Meth will look like and described the devastating effects it has on individuals. Steve Ainslie and Tom Guheen from START presented "Pump Up Your Pre-Trip." Steve and Tom handed out a very detailed description of all the items that need to be checked daily on a transit vehicle and gave a hands-on demonstration. Emily Howery presented some facts and dispelled rumors about bloodborne pathogens. Emily also reviewed the different types of bloodborne virus and the ones that have vaccinations available. Anna Thompson of WYDOT updated the group on the latest types of child safety seats.
Other conference classes included CTAA's Passenger Service and Safety Certification (PASS), both beginning and recertification classes, and the WYTRANS Safe Driver course. The two-day PASS course covers driver sensitivity, as well as teaching drivers to be more in tune with passenger needs. The Safe Driver course was designed by WYTRANS trainers and is geared for the public transit driver. CATC rider Dan Creager spoke to conference participants at lunch on Friday. He said that CATC has been taking him to work for the past 25 years. Dan works at the BLM and CATC takes him to work, to lunch, back to work, and home for the day.
