2003 Conference—June 18 through June 21

The 2003 WYTRANS Conference and Bus Roadeo will be held June 18-21 in Cheyenne at the Little America. The Little America is an 80-acre oasis of luxury and service surrounded by beautifully groomed grounds and a nine-hole executive golf course. With an Olympic-size swimming pool and 6,600 square feet of banquet and conference space, the hotel will provide an excellent setting for the 15th Annual WYTRANS Conference.

Several classes are tentatively scheduled. WYTRANS will offer Passenger Service and Safety Certification (PASS), both beginning and recertification classes, and the WYTRANS Safe Driver course.
One of the highlights will be National Transit Institute (NTI) Fellow Paul Foer. He has been the Transportation Marketing Specialist for the City of Annapolis, Maryland, for five years. His workshop titled “Creating the Low-Cost, Low-Tech Transit Marketing Plan for Small Agencies” teaches participants how to develop low-cost marketing initiatives that can improve service, increase ridership, and promote a valuable public image.
Paul will discuss why marketing starts with customer interaction at all levels, why marketing is not necessarily about advertising and promotion, and why marketing does not have to cost a lot of money. Participants will leave his workshop with a clear understanding of marketing and guidelines for a basic marketing plan they can use to guide their marketing efforts and allocate resources.
The conference will also include Dispatch Training by Faye Nash, Safety and Security Training, Bloodborne Pathogen Awareness, and the latest on Drug and Alcohol requirements. FTA representative John Dow is scheduled to be on hand to discuss some funding issues.
The Bus Roadeo will be held Saturday morning again this year, to avoid the extreme afternoon heat. WYTRANS will present its annual awards and announce the bus roadeo winners at a banquet that will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
Cheyenne Transit staff members have been looking forward to hosting the conference and they have some fun events planned for participants. Friday night activities include a luau and a hypnotist. Make plans now to attend. A complete schedule, registration information, and more details will be included in the May issue of the Transit Express.
SLIB Grant Recipients

The State Loan and Investment Board (SLIB), made up of the state’s five elected officials, awarded grants to several Public Transit Program grantees in November 2002. Match amounts varied from grantee to grantee based on their ability to provide that match and the amount of their request. WYDOT provided a significant amount of grant funds from its own sources as match to the SLIB funds. This allowed more vehicles to be purchased.
The Transportation Enterprise Fund is scheduled to have about $1 million available annually for the purchase of new and replacement transit vehicles. Fourteen public transit providers received SLIB funding to purchase vehicles in 2003. They are listed below in alphabetical order.
