2006 Driver of the Year Nominees
Nominee: Kevin Trimmer
Agency: Cheyenne Transit System
Nomination by Joe Dougherty, Director of Transit

Kevin Trimmer has been one of Cheyenne Transit System’s best employees for over 13 years, dispatching the first six years of his career and driving a bus the past seven. With his kind demeanor and years of experience, he has come to be known as a number-one problem solver for drivers, passengers, and CTP administrators. In fact, he is so proficient at problem solving that he also serves as our driver scheduler and has earned the title “Doc” for Driver Outreach Coordinator.
Kevin keeps the lines of communication flowing both ways from the drivers to the office. He is so devoted to problem solving that he keeps the CTP radio channel tuned in to his personal vehicle. He is often called upon at home to put a spare bus into service or to help a driver with a personal problem find a solution. Kevin is always there to help with a smile on his face and a happy heart.
Kevin has earned an accident-free award in every single year of his driving career but one. In addition, he willingly helps out in dispatch, at the bus barn, in the administrative offices, at the transfer station, or wherever he is needed. Although called upon for other services, he tries to devote his time to full-time driving two or three days each week.
Kevin is one of those people who always keeps a cool head and help others stay focused on human service. To his credit, he underwent life-changing gastric-bypass surgery two years ago and has lost over 260 pounds. Kevin spends much of his free time volunteering with the Salvation Army Church and working with the youth group.
We have a lot of good drivers, and we appreciate all of them; however, we feel so strongly about Kevin’s contribution to our program that the Cheyenne Transit Program wishes to nominate him for WYTRANS Driver

Nominee: Valerie Mair
Agency: Uinta Senior Citizens,
Bridger Valley Site in Mountain View
Nomination by  Nancy Herbin, Site Manager

Valerie Mair (Val) has been a bus driver for the Bridger Valley Senior Citizens for 11 years. She is the lead bus driver and takes care of all scheduling when it comes to transportation. She oversees the other two drivers, schedules all maintenance and upkeep of the vehicles, and finishes the monthly transportation reports that are turned into the state.
Val has no problem staying late when she needs to work overtime to make sure her senior clients need to get where they need to be. Many times she has volunteered her time to drive the bus for out-of-town trips. She helps the seniors on and off the bus and goes out of her way to see they are safe. She helps them put on their coats and takes extra time with those who use a walker, cane, or wheelchair. She carries groceries for those that can’t.
Val keeps up on her PASS and Safe Driver training, as well as First Aid/CPR and all other required training. Our agency provides public transportation, so Val sets up transportation schedules with the school childrens’ parents and does a terrific job of keeping them safe while getting them home. She tries to get them home in a timely manner so that the children aren’t on the bus for a long time. There have been times when several seniors would not go on a trip unless Val is the driver.
